A decision has been reached....
The knees have been fixed, a marathon with my daughter was ran, and a decision has be reached......I will be moving to Calgary for 5 to 7 months to train in long track speed skating to see if I can be competitive enough to reach the next level.
I know it has been quiet on this blog for quite sometime but there were so many things happening, even I needed a break!!
First and for most, I fixed both my knees for miniscus tears right at the end of the speed skating season (March). I chose to do it right away so as to give me a fair fighting chance to skate hard this season. Although recovery is not quite what I expected, as I am still in some pain, I have been training so I feel good to go.
Next, I skated sporadically all last season and even raced a few times, but with travelling weekly, the time difference, the altitude changes, not eating properly, work and family, I was extremely burnt out by March and welcomed the knee surgery just to have a break. Nevertheless, in my short exposure to long track speed skating, I managed to achieve the next level in time qualifications. Now I am looking to train full time and reach the next and final time qualifications.
This year, I finally made a decision last week to go for it, otherwise it will just haunt me. I am now looking to raise some money again as I am looking to rent a room out in Calgary.......food, training, equipment, coaches, and various expenses will need to be addressed. At Christmas, I will re-evaluate my progress and if on track, I will finish out the season until the end of March.
Hopefully this will be the last post here as I would like to link this site with a new blog site for the new adventure.
My daughter ran her first marathon in Ottawa.....a whole 2kms and she did it in a smashing time of 12:45....I was really proud of her......she doesn't know that I am moving yet.....
Peace.
