Battered & Bruised
Learning the sport of skeleton is not without a little pain...
The bruises come from skeleton school in Park City Utah. You have to get a licence before you start sliding competitively. That school lasted 4 days with a total of 11 runs...3 from the junior start, 3 from the ladies start, and 5 from the top. Nobody told me that you needed padding around the shoulder and elbow areas cause when you hit the wall out of a turn at anywhere from 100kms to 140kms, not only are you getting hit hard for a bruise, but you are also getting ice burn too...like road rash. By the 2nd day, after 6 runs, I had had my fill but I kept thinking about the ultimate goal and plowed (literally) through. The joke of the week was that I always volunteered to go first out of 16 students...."to soften the walls for everyone else".....I survived and the sport humbled me quickly.
