A new adventure begins....with a twist
Well, I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays so far....with the big night tonight bringing in the new year. My new year already holds some excitement and new adventures.
I have not really told anyone about this but now, over the holidays, it has been confirmed......I will be an alternate on the Greek bobsled team also looking to qualify for this years Olympic Games. I will of course continue and carry through my skeleton mission but now, if I am needed, I will be able to fill in at a moments notice since we will all be racing on the same track in Konigssee.
I will be off to Austria soon to train with the bobbers and to learn how to run and load, without spiking anyone. From there, they will be participating in the World Cup competition in Konigssee and then right after, in the Challenge Cup competition in Konigssee to qualify.
At least now I will keep busy. That is one thing about this sport...after you are done your 2 minutes of "work"...things are pretty idle after that. Now, I will be pre-occupied and busy so things may get interesting.
In the pic is the machine I will train on with the Greek team (driver missing in photo). Enjoy the night tonight and be safe......

i am a sports journalist following the winter games...i came across your page. I am curious...do you have any prior experience in bobsled? Is the sport so simple to just start the sport from scratch and compete at such a level only a few weeks before the olympics?

First off .....a journalist typically only writes about people who are somebody....if you think the sport is so simple try to even get noticed by fellow athletes to be a back up for anything. You might pass as a water boy for a foot ball game....
You have to be in the top 1% of physical condition to ever qualify....
Can you Arnold leg press 900+ LBS then maybe if you are lucky enough and sacrifice work, family, friends to ever be in the position to qualify...that is just for starters.
A reader and also Athlete of Dee's BLOG.
I found out who the "QUACK" Sports Journalist is lawn dart champion himself.....Rick Reilly...Sports Illustrated who wrote an article regarding his vast knowledge of the oldest original downhill sport - Skeleton.
He is paid to piss on anything he lacks knowledge in.
Actually after reading his article "Keep the skeleton in the closet" ...actually Bobsled shares the track with Skeleton....as he puts is the other way around.
Here is a challenge to you Mr. Quack Pants, I got the best sled you can buy...a great helmet and guts. So you can borrow my sled any time and point the "glorified lunch tray down the hill" at Olympic Park - Park City. If you make 10 runs I will give you a thousand BUCKS.
If you don't make it out of the tunnel .............realistically, on the first run then we will give you a free pass to the hospital......it will be waiting for you at turn 14...good luck Rick Quack Reilly.
Hawk :)
