Speed......
Ahhh, the need for speed, lately, the only thing going fast is this bike. Actually, lots of things happening.....
First of all, my shoulder is coming along very fine. I was able to fully raise my arm within the first week of surgery and I was doing weights by the 3rd week and for the past two weeks, I have been on a heavier, stricter training regiment, slowly preparing myself for full recovery. The legs have been working hard and I have baptized the tank hills this weekend and also had to replace the wood under my weighted sled for the use I am getting out of it.
Second of all, I ordered a pair of super duper fast inline skates and am just waiting for those to be delivered. Get this, this is how my life works, my motto was 'Greece Lightning' for skeleton, now, it's 'Lightning always strikes twice' for speed skating, the pair of skates I ordered......Rollerblade Lightning II.....freaky eh?! Just to add to the freakiness, I even tried to buy another pair of skates but they only had my size in the Ligthnings. This type of connection just motivates me even more. Anyways, I went to a local domed indoor 400m track and explained what I was up to cause I am looking for a controlled area to skate cause once you pick up speed on the street, you can't just stop on a dime, and am now waiting for an answer. The track is rubberized so it will cause some drag but that's okay, makes me work harder. I only need it for endurance, technique and form. They have to check if there are any issues with the warrranty of the track if I skate on it....hope to hear soon.
Thirdly, my friends at the Minto ice rink have given me the go-ahead to start speed skating there when the ice is free. This training would be for technique and starts.
Beach volleyball also starts this week too and I will be playing in a 2 on 2 mens league and also a 5 on 5 co-ed fun league.
Needless to say, next week should be pretty busy for me but I believe I am ready to start training harder now.
I am even considering signing up for a week long speed skating camp in the summer at the Oval in Calgary if I can manage the time off.
I still feel my lower ab / groin pull but it is slowly subsiding.
The body is starting to tighten up nicely.....speaking of which, look at my daughter's skinny little arms holding on tightly, but don't let that fool ya, she is very strong and even with the sound of the notor, the wind in our face, and just like in skeleton....I hear her in the back......faster daddy, faster.....
Peace.
